I'm Mark Bilbrey, a poet, writer, and English instructor.
I've been teaching, tutoring, editing, and writing for years, working with
students and clients at all levels, from middle-school students to college and
graduate students, professors, businesses, and authors.
As for my credentials, I've taught at the University of
Iowa, The University of Georgia, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside,
Nashville State Community College, and Belmont University. I earned a PhD in
English and Creative Writing, focusing on Composition, Poetics, Early American
Literature, and American Poetry. I also hold an MFA in Poetry Writing from The
Iowa Writers' Workshop. My work has appeared in dozens of publications.
Beyond training and experience, what has made my
interactions with clients and students so successful is that I enjoy my work
and consider each assignment an important opportunity. I believe that what I do
is highly valuable and meaningful work. Whether I'm helping a non-native
speaker write a cover letter for a job application, tutoring a middle-schooler
on class assignments, helping a high-schooler compose an application essay,
teaching a university course on poetry writing, guiding a graduate student
through the process of organizing a dissertation, or editing a business's
website, I know that what I do can make a dramatic difference. Not only can I
help my students and clients make significant improvements to their current
projects, but I can help prepare them for future writing projects as well.
Building writing and communication skills is a life-long process for each of
us. I'm proud to know that the work I do helps others to develop skills and
confidence that will serve them for years to come.
