The stereotype of the creative writer slaving away at the
keyboard in Walden-esque isolation doesn't represent very many of us. Even
Thoreau needed the friendship and support of Emerson (on whose property he was
squatting when he spent his time "alone" at Walden). In reality, the
most introverted among us still depend on a community of other writers and
readers in one way or another. I've benefited enormously from the advice and
encouragement I've received from a long list of wonderful teachers, mentors,
peers, and friends. In turn, I've found mentoring other writers to be
wonderfully productive and insightful for both parties.
If you find yourself in need of some guidance from a
professional, I'd be eager to offer my services. I've taught hundreds of
students, many of whom have gone on to publish amazing work and be accepted
into prestigious writing programs. Perhaps you're anxious to start a memoir but
don't know how to get started. Or you're attempting to complete a manuscript,
but need another pair of eyes to help with important final decisions. Perhaps
you'd just like some feedback regarding your style and process and would like
me to take a look at your poems or stories. Perhaps you're interested in
publishing your work, but don't know how where to begin. I'd be happy to help,
wherever you are in the process. My interest is in helping you achieve what you
want--not trying to undermine your goals, style, and literary preferences. It
would be a delight to consult with you to devise a program of mentoring or
coaching tailored to your needs as a writer.
